AllerGen AI is a tool designed to help individuals with food allergies identify potential allergens in their meals. Created by a college student with allergies to dairy, eggs, nuts, and kiwi, the project aims to assist those with restrictive food allergies in finding enjoyable dining options. Whether you're personally dealing with food allergies, a parent looking to expand your child's meal choices, or someone caring for a loved one with dietary restrictions, AllerGen AI is intended to make dining safer and more inclusive.

The project involves taking a picture of your food, uploading it, and using the LogMeal AI API to detect food ingredients and potential allergens. This process eliminates the need for social interaction, making it a convenient tool for those who may forget to ask about allergens in their meals. It's important to note that AllerGen AI is for educational and experimental purposes only and should not be used as an official source. Always consult your food provider or official nutritional information for accurate allergen details.

Developed using ReactJS, Javascript, and Radix-ui for the frontend, and Firebase DB, GitHub Pages, and the LogMeal API for the backend, the project presented several challenges. These included converting and compressing images, as well as parsing the LogMeal API output to extract the necessary data. The developer found Radix-ui particularly helpful in simplifying the DOM and re-learning CSS concepts.

Future plans for AllerGen AI include adding error alerts, hosting the project on Vercel, and incorporating multi-language support, starting with Spanish.
