Harnessing Copernicus Foundation Models to Decode Earth from Space
Overview
The ThinkingEarth Hackathon, organized by the National Technical University of Athens, invites participants to explore and utilize Copernicus Foundation Models, weather forecasting models, and Earth Observation (EO) vision-language models. Running remotely from September 1-30, 2025, with a final onsite sprint at BiDS25, this event focuses on decoding Earth from space. Participants will work on one of three tracks: EO Foundation Models, Weather Forecasting, or EO Vision-Language Models, prototyping solutions with expert mentoring.
Requirements
Participants must be above the legal age of majority in their country of residence. Only specific countries/territories are included. Participants need a laptop with internet access and coding experience in Python and deep learning libraries like PyTorch and NumPy. Projects can be run locally or on cloud environments. Teams can consist of individuals or up to three people. Prior EO experience is not required. Submissions must include a project description, source code, demo/presentation materials, and documentation.

Total prize pool of €5,000 in cash. First Place: €2,500 Second Place: €1,500 Third Place: €1,000
