GIRLCODE HACKATHON 2025

Overview

The GIRLCODE HACKATHON 2025 is an exciting annual event focused on "Future-Proofing Africa: Innovation at the Intersection of FinTech, Cybersecurity, and AI." This hackathon is designed to empower young women across seven African cities – Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, Kampala, Nairobi, Gaborone, and Dar es Salaam – to collaborate and innovate. Participants will leverage Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, and Financial Technology to create groundbreaking solutions that address real-world challenges and contribute to a resilient, inclusive, and digitally secure future for the continent.

Requirements

This hackathon is open to young women aged 18 to 35. Participants must form teams of 2 to 4 members. The event encourages collaboration and development of both technical and soft skills. The deadline for submissions is August 22, 2025. Specific countries are included in the eligibility; please refer to the official rules for details.

Prizes

The hackathon offers a substantial prize pool, including a Grand Prize of $5,500 in cash. Additionally, there are prizes for top positions: $300 for 1st Position, $100 for 2nd Position, and $100 for 3rd Position, along with other prizes. Projects will be evaluated based on innovation, creativity, technical execution, impact, usefulness, presentation quality, feasibility, scalability, and the effective use of technologies.
