DeepSeek vs. Llama: The "Kill The Cloud" Challenge

Overview

This hackathon challenges you to ideate the future of privacy-first, offline AI by building resilient mobile apps powered by on-device intelligence. You'll focus on creating concepts that work anywhere, anytime, without needing an internet connection. The goal is to explore local AI solutions that offer true privacy, work in offline environments, and provide zero latency.

Requirements

This is an ideathon, so you don't need to build a full app. Participants must be above the legal age of majority in their country and all countries are eligible except those with standard trade exceptions. You will submit a single PDF presentation (max 10 slides) that includes a problem statement, the app's vision, an architecture diagram showing data flow and SDK usage, your strategy for selecting and implementing small language models (like DeepSeek, Llama 3, or Whisper) on a mobile device, and a specific use case where the app is essential due to being offline. You also need to provide a project name, a short description, and your Discord handle. Joining the Discord server is mandatory for updates and guidance.

Prizes

The hackathon offers $150 in cash prizes. The winner receives $75, office hours with YC Founders, and a "Golden Ticket" for direct entry into an upcoming Global On-Device Hackathon. The runner-up gets $50 and office hours with YC Founders. The second runner-up receives $25.
