KnowViz

KnowViz is a document-based knowledge management and visualization tool designed to help users organize and connect information efficiently. It focuses on handling keywords, such as physical quantities, and the relations that link these quantities, like physical models. Currently in a pre-alpha state, KnowViz is not yet ready for full-scale use but shows promise for future applications.

KnowViz stores knowledge in documents, with each keyword or relation having one or more dedicated documents. Keywords are treated as unique entities and can have synonyms and categories. Each synonym or name is linked to only one keyword, ensuring clarity and consistency. Relations are established by parsing human-readable documents that contain relation information and searching for text occurrences of keywords.

The tool's underlying document-based database is built on YAML (1.2) files, making it compatible with version control systems like git. This allows for easy tracking and synchronization of changes. Users can access the database through a Python API or an interactive GUI based on Jupyter notebooks and ipywidgets, providing flexibility in how they interact with the data.

While the visualization component of KnowViz is still a work in progress, the tool's current capabilities offer a robust solution for managing and connecting complex information. As it develops, KnowViz aims to become a valuable asset for anyone needing to organize and visualize knowledge effectively.
